"Paul made sure I was prioritizing upgrades where I would receive a rebate and tax credit."
In 2013, oil prices were between $3.50 and $4.00 a gallon and Susan Torncello's small Cape-style house was using about 800 gallons a year. Susan contacted the Energy Co-op to schedule an energy audit with Paul Fleckenstein. Susan said, "Paul was very responsive to my questions, priorities and budget. He worked closely and thoroughly to inspect my house - every nook and cranny - and to develop a plan of action. He made sure I was prioritizing upgrades where I would receive a rebate and tax credit. He stayed on top of the entire process and checked in with me regularly about the status and quality of the work."
Susan made several improvements to her home: air sealing leaks and drafts and adding insulation for the walls, foundation slab and attic. She also re-zoned the heating system and re-defined the thermal envelope. The work was completed in November of 2014
The following winter, Susan used about 450 gallons of oil a year. Susan said, "The savings are phenomenal - beyond my expectations. Oil prices can go up or down, but I can just feel how much tighter - energy efficient - my house is."
